DeSantis kicks off 2024 presidential campaign on Twitter Spaces

On Wednesday, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced his 2024 presidential bid via Twitter’s audio platform, Twitter Spaces. The event was co-hosted by Twitter owner Elon Musk and tech investor David Sacks.

“I am running for president of the United States to lead our great American comeback,” DeSantis declared. “But we know our country’s going in the wrong direction. We see it with our own eyes. And we feel it in our bones.”

DeSantis told voters, “My pledge to you is this: If you nominate me, you can set your clock to January 20, 2025, at high noon because on the west side of the US Capitol, I will be taking the oath of office as the 47th president of the United States. No excuses. I will get the job done!”

The Governor cracked jokes about the technical difficulties during the event, claiming they had broken Twitter Spaces. David Sacks also posted on Twitter, saying, “This was by far the biggest room ever held on social media. Twitter performed great after some initial scaling challenges.”

DeSantis also criticized President Biden, “Our president, while he lacks vigor, flounders in the face of our nation’s challenges, and he takes his cues from the woke mob.”

At the same time, former president Donald Trump posted on his platform Truth Social, reacting to DeSantis’ campaign launch, “Wow! The DeSanctus TWITTER launch is a DISASTER! His whole campaign will be a disaster. WATCH!”

Biden responded to DeSantis’s campaign kick-off, “No matter what happens, you can hear Ron DeSantis’ agenda loud and clear.” The President also posted a fundraising link to the Biden administration on Twitter, remarking, “This link works,” alluding to the technical glitches during the Governor’s announcement.
