At least 5 civilians killed and 4 injured during an attack on mayor’s office in Mogadishu. Somalia’s MOI claims the attack was carried out by Khawarij forces.

The Facts
At least five civilians have been killed in an attack on the mayor’s office in Mogadishu, Somalia.
Somalia’s Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism tweeted that the attack had been carried out by Khawarij forces.
The army is said to have shot down the six attackers. Five civilians were also killed, with four others injured in the attack.
The attack comes just days after U.S. Africa Command conducted a collective self-defense strike to support the Somalia National Army in a conflict against al-Shabaab forces 260km northeast of Mogadishu on Jan 20.
This “complex, extended, intense attack by more than 100 al-Shabaab fighters” resulted in the deaths of 30 members of the group. No civilians were reported injured or killed.
