Google faces Justice Dept lawsuit for allegedly monopolizing digital advertising

The U.S. Justice Department filed a lawsuit against Google on Tuesday over allegations that the company abused its dominance of the digital advertising business, harming website publishers, advertisers, and consumers.
Through this lawsuit, NY Attorney General James, the DoJ, and a coalition of states are “seeking to stop Google’s anti-competitive practices and order it to sell off various ad tech tools to restore a competitive balance in digital advertising and end Google’s unfair advantage in the industry.”
“New York consumers and small businesses are paying the price of Google’s actions,” said NY Attorney General James, explaining that Google’s monopolies have resulted in lower ad revenue for independent website publishers. “I am proud to partner with the Department of Justice in pushing back against Google’s illegal actions,” she added.
This is the second time Google has had to face allegations of violating antitrust law, such as “driving out rivals, diminishing competition, inflating advertising costs, reducing innovation, and harming the exchange of information and ideas in the public sphere.” – (as described by Jonathan Kanter, assistant attorney general for the Department of Justice Antitrust Division).
In 2020, the Justice Department sued the company for abuse of monopoly power in internet search and search-based advertising.
