Biden, McCarthy to discuss debt limit on Wednesday

McCarthy says he wants to “find a reasonable and a responsible way that we can lift the debt ceiling”. Biden states, “I will not let anyone use the full faith and credit of the United States as a bargaining chip”.

President Joe Biden and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy are set to meet on Wednesday, as confirmed by McCarthy in an interview with CBS on Sunday.
“I want to find a reasonable and a responsible way that we can lift the debt ceiling but take control of this runaway spending,” said McCarthy.
He further stated, “I think it’s very important that our whole government is designed to find compromise.”
In a press briefing on Jan 27, Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre reiterated that the White House would not negotiate on raising the debt ceiling.
“I will not let anyone use the full faith and credit of the United States as a bargaining chip” declared Biden on Friday, adding, “in the United States of America, we pay our debts.”
