UK court rules plan to deport asylum seekers is legal

UK High Court, Rwandan migrants

UK court rules Rwanda migrant plan is lawful. Cases of 8 asylum seekers to be reconsidered.

Where: UK

The Facts

The High Court in London has ruled that the UK’s plan to deport Rwandan asylum seekers is lawful.
On Monday, the court deemed the controversial plan announced by Boris Johnson in April legal.
The British government has already paid Rwanda $146 million to accept asylum seekers as part of the plan.
Furthermore, the court ruled that the cases of eight asylum seekers had not been “properly considered” and thus would need to be re-examined.
Home Secretary Suella Braverman reaffirmed her commitment to the policy and said, “I am committed to making this partnership work – my focus remains on moving ahead with the policy as soon as possible and we stand ready to defend against any further legal challenge.”
