San Francisco Board of Supervisors overturns ‘killer robot’ vote
December 8, 2022
Protests against ‘killer robots’ in San Francisco. Board of Supervisors halt the program.
Where: San Francisco
The Facts
On Tuesday, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors voted to bar the police from using robots to incapacitate suspects.
The board had voted last week to allow police to deploy remote-controlled, ground-based robots, capable of using deadly force in risky situations.
The reversal comes following protests against the decision outside City Hall.
Having voted against the measure last week, District Supervisor Dean Preston called the reversal “crucial.”
Preston stated, “We should be working on ways to decrease the use of force by local law enforcement, not giving them new tools to kill people.”
