The Facts
On Sunday, China’s National Health Commission (NHC) announced that it would stop releasing its daily pandemic information, which included daily COVID-19 caseloads.
The NHC stated, “The Chinese Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will publish relevant pandemic information for reference and research.”
The NHC didn’t specify the reason for the change or how often the CDC would release future data.
The NHC started releasing daily figures on COVID-19 infections in January 2020. Earlier this month, China stopped reporting asymptomatic COVID-19 cases after mandatory mass PCR testing was scrapped.
On Monday, China’s CDC reported no new COVID-19 deaths on the Chinese mainland for December 25th, the same as a day earlier.
