Roughly 48,000 academic workers on University of California campuses have gone on strike.
The workers are demanding better pay and benefits.
The United Auto Workers (UAW) have stated that this is the largest strike in higher education history and could disrupt classes across the state at 10 University of California campuses.
UAW President Ray Curry stated, “Our union stands with our members in California as they fight for fairness and an equitable collective bargaining agreement.”
Curry added, “We urge the University of California to stop their misconduct and bargain in good faith with their academic workers who perform critical work every day.”
