Numerous protestors and police clashed in Shanghai on Sunday as protests over China’s strict zero-Covid policy spread across the country.
Protests were triggered across several cities following the death of 10 people in a deadly apartment fire in Urumqi on Thursday.
Netizens speculated that the apartment’s residents couldn’t escape in time because the building was under partial lockdown. Authorities have denied these claims.
Protestors in Wuhan and Chengdu took to the streets on Sunday, while students from several universities organized demonstrations over the weekend.
Early on Monday, at least 1,000 people gathered along Beijing’s 3rd ring road and refused to disperse, protesting the country’s zero-Covid policy.
