On Thursday, journalist E. Jean Carroll filed charges of battery and defamation against Donald Trump for allegedly raping her 27 years ago.
This is Carrol’s second lawsuit against the former US president as a new New York State law takes effect allowing victims of sexual assault to sue over attacks that occurred decades ago.
The Adult Survivors Act gives adult victims a one-year window to file a claim.
Carroll has alleged that Trump had raped her in the dressing room of a New York department store in the 1990s.
The lawsuit states, “Trump’s underlying sexual assault severely injured Carroll, causing significant pain and suffering, lasting psychological harms, loss of dignity, and invasion of her privacy. His recent defamatory statement has only added to the harm that Carroll had already suffered.”
