On Monday, China reported 5,496 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases for November 6th. The latest resurgence marks the highest daily reported cases in the country since May 2nd of this year.
The rising number of cases has prompted authorities and businesses to ramp up measures to contain the outbreak of infections.
Late on Sunday, the Taiwan-based iPhone manufacturer Foxconn said it would implement new COVID-19 measures at its plant in Zhengzhou, where 297 new local COVID-19 cases were reported for November 6th alone.
Foxconn’s new measures include moving all working employees to dormitories and requiring them to follow a “point-to-point” system where they can only move between their dormitories and the factory area.
Foxconn added that the new measures were being implemented at the government’s request.
