Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) has won re-election to the Senate, defeating Trump-backed fellow Republican candidate Kelly Tshibaka.
The results were announced Wednesday after officials finished tabulating ballots from the November 8th elections.
The state used the “ranked choice” system, allowing voters to rank candidates in order of preference. Murkowski won with 53.69% of the votes in the third and final round.
Murkowski stated, “Thank you, Alaska. I am honored that Alaskans – of all regions, backgrounds and party affiliations – have once again granted me their confidence to continue working with them and on their behalf in the US Senate.”
Meanwhile, Representative Mary Peltola (D-AK) was re-elected to a full two-year term in the US House of Representatives, defeating Republican candidates Sarah Palin and Nick Begich.
