Assange supporters protest UK’s decision to extradite him to the US

The Facts

Supporters of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, including former Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn, formed a human chain outside the UK Parliament to protest London’s decision to extradite Assange to the US.
The US wants Assange extradited to face espionage charges connected to WikiLeak’s release of confidential US military and diplomatic data. The US has claimed Assange put lives in danger by publishing these documents.
In June 2022, the then UK Home Secretary Priti Patel approved Assange’s extradition order. Assange is currently being held in Belmarsh Prison in London.
Assange’s legal team has filed an appeal against his extradition to the US.
Assange supporters also gathered outside the US Department of Justice in Washington, DC, and called on the federal government to drop its extradition bid.
