Where: Greece-Turkey border
The Facts
Ninety-two migrants have been discovered at the border of Greece and Turkey, stripped of their clothing, and with some visibly wounded.
Both parties have since blamed each other for the condition of the migrants.
Notis Mitarachi, Greece’s Minister for Migration and Asylum stated, “Türkiye’s behaviour towards 92 migrants whom we rescued at the borders today, is a shame for civilisation.”
Turkish officials have asserted that the accusations against them are groundless and false. Deputy Minister of the Interior Ismail Çataklı took to Twitter to respond to Mitarachi, stating, “Spend your time to obey human rights, not for manipulations & dishonesty.”
UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency stated, “UNHCR is deeply distressed by the shocking reports and images of 92 people, who were reported to have been found at the Greek-Turkish land border, stripped of their clothes.”
