The UK first to approve Omicron vaccine. British drug regulators approve new Moderna vaccine.
Where: UK
The Facts
On Monday, the UK approved Moderna’s bivalent Covid 19 booster for adults.
The new vaccine is effective against Omicron and continues to protect against the original virus.
The head of Britain’s health care regulator June Raine said, “What this bivalent vaccine gives us is a sharpened tool in our armory to help protect us against this disease as the virus continues to evolve.”
The British healthcare regulator found the vaccine’s side effects similar to the original Moderna vaccine, which were generally mild and self-resolving.
According to an FDA statement from June, updated booster shots are likely to be rolled out in the US this fall.
