The Facts
On Monday, US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and an accompanying Congressional delegation arrived in Singapore for a two-day visit, marking their first stop on their official Asia tour.
The delegation met with several prominent officials, including Singapore’s President Halimah Yacob, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, and Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan.
Singapore’s Foreign Ministry said, “PM Lee and the Congressional delegation affirmed the deep and multi-faceted partnership between Singapore and the US, underpinned by robust cooperation across the defence, security and economic spheres.”
The lawmakers met the US Marine detachment in Singapore. Pelosi was also scheduled to attend a cocktail reception held by the American Chamber of Commerce later on Monday.
The US delegation will visit Malaysia, South Korea, and Japan next.
