UN chief Antonio Guterres has slammed oil and gas companies for profiting from the ongoing energy crisis.
Accusing the oil and gas companies and their financial backers of ‘grotesque greed,’ Guterres urged governments worldwide to “tax these excessive profits.”
The UN Secretary-General stated, “It is immoral for oil and gas companies to be making record profits from this energy crisis on the backs of the poorest people and communities, at a massive cost to the climate.”
Two top US oil companies- Exxon Mobil Corp and Chevron Corp with Britain-based Shell and France’s TotalEnergies, earned nearly $51 billion last quarter.
The group nearly doubled their income from the same quarter last year.
