On Thursday, Novac Djokovic announced he would not be traveling to New York for the US Open tournament.
The Serbian former world number one has refused to vaccinate against Covid 19 and cannot travel to the US owing to restrictions.
As it stands, travelers must show proof of full vaccination to board flights to and enter the US.
Djokovic, 35, reflected on the situation, stating, “Sadly, I will not be able to travel to NY this time for US Open, Good luck to my fellow players!”
Djokovic was rendered incapable of defending his Australian Open title earlier this year after being deported due to his unvaccinated status.
