Croatia opens Chinese-built bridge bypassing Bosnia

Croatia opens bypass bridge to much fanfare. The bridge bypasses Bosnia.

Where: Croatia

The Facts

Croatia inaugurated a bridge on Tuesday linking its southern Adriatic coast with the rest of the country.
The 2.4 km bridge was constructed by China but funded for the most part by the European Union.
The Croatian Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs tweeted, “We inaugurated one of the biggest Cohesion Policy-funded projects in the #EU and in #Croatia with an EU contribution of €357 million. The Pelješac Bridge is truly a monument to the first decade of our EU membership.”
The inauguration of the bridge comes as the country hopes to restore tourism to pre-pandemic levels.
The advantage of bypassing Bosnia is that tourists can avoid two border checks since Bosnia is not part of the EU.
