A rare pink diamond, now named the “Lulo Rose”, has been discovered in a mine in Angola.
The 170-carat stone, weighing 34 grams (1.2 oz), is reportedly the largest of its kind discovered in the last 300 years.
The stone is a type 2a diamond containing little to no impurities.
Lulo Rose was discovered in the Lulo mine, a joint venture between the Angolan government and Australia’s Lucapa Diamond Company.
The Angolan minister for mineral resources said, “This record and spectacular pink diamond recovered from Lulo continues to showcase Angola as an important player on the world stage.”
