The Facts
A British judge rejected an appeal to block the deportation of asylum seekers to Rwanda.
Charities and a trade union had objected to the British government’s plan to send asylum seekers to Rwanda,
Home Secretary Priti Patel stated, “Rwanda is a safe country and has previously been recognised for providing a safe haven for refugees – we will continue preparations for the first flight to Rwanda, alongside the range of other measures intended to reduce small boat crossings.”
The rights group Care 4 Calais stated, ” Sending asylum seekers to Rwanda would breach the UK’s legal obligations under the European Convention on Human Rights and the Refugee Convention.”
Campaigners against the government policy are expected to go to the Court of Appeal.
