Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman visits Turkey

Saudi Crown Prince visits Turkey. Salman & Turkish President Erdogan to hold talks.

Where: Turkey

The Facts

On Wednesday, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman visited Turkey for talks with Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan aimed at normalizing the strained ties between the two nations.
A rift was caused between Saudi Arabia and Turkey after a Saudi hit squad assassinated Saudi dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey, in October 2018.
At the time, Erdogan publicly blamed Khashoggi’s murder on the “highest levels” of the Saudi government. However, the Saudi Crown Prince’s visit to Turkey signals a turnaround in their relations, with Ankara also halting Khashoggi’s murder trial in April and transferring it to Riyadh.
Turkish officials noted that Salman’s visit is expected to bring in a “new era” and “a full normalization (of ties) and a restoration of the pre-crisis period.”
Last week, Erdogan had said he and the Saudi Crown Prince would discuss “to what much higher level” the two countries could take their ties during their meeting in Ankara.
