Ryanair has dropped the controversial Afrikaans test for South Africans to prove their nationality before flying to the UK.
Ryanair’s move comes after a backlash from South Africans accusing the airline of racial discrimination.
Ryanair chief executive Michael O’Leary announced the change in policy in Brussels on Tuesday.
The airline’s owner, Michael O’Leary said, “We didn’t think it was appropriate either.”
The test had been described as a “backward profiling system” by the South African government’s Department of Home Affairs.
