Targeted killings of Hindus in Kashmir. Hundreds of Hindus flee the valley in panic.
Where: Kashmir
The Facts
A series of targeted killings of Hindus in Indian-administered Kashmir forced hundreds to flee the valley in the last month.
The latest victims include Rajni Bala (a teacher) and Vijay Kumar (a bank employee).
Prompted by the actions of Islamic militants in the valley, large numbers of Pandits (a group of Kashmiri Hindus) left in large numbers in the 1990s. A few, however, remained behind.
Member of Parliament Shashi Tharoor stated, “The recent targeted killings in Kashmir show how insecurity is growing despite Govt’s much-touted gains.”
The Pandits are demanding to be relocated.
