The Facts

On Thursday, Elon Musk addressed Twitter (TWTR.N) employees for the first time.
Musk projected a need for “rationalization of headcount” but offered few other new details about his $44 billion takeover of the social media company.
Musk appeared via video call, 10 minutes late, to what turned out to be a freewheeling question and answer session moderated by a Twitter executive.
Musk mused about the existence of aliens and other space civilizations and reasserted his view that Twitter should serve to help “civilization and consciousness.”
He told Twitter staff he wants to raise the service’s user numbers to at least a billion people and said advertising would remain important for the company.
Despite previously stating that he believed Twitter should not serve ads, Musk stated, “I think advertising is very important for Twitter,” adding, “I’m not against advertising.”
