Where: United States
The Facts
On Friday, President Biden, along with several Western Hemisphere leaders, unveiled a new migration declaration that he said would transform the regional approach to migration.
“The Los Angeles Declaration” is perhaps the most significant achievement of the Summit of the Americas, which was undercut by differences over Biden’s invitation list.
Leaders of Mexico and several Central American countries sent top diplomats after the US excluded Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela.
Biden stated, “With this declaration, we’re transforming our approach to managing migration in the Americas,” referring to the Los Angeles Declaration.
Separately, the US is announcing a sting operation to disrupt human smuggling in the region.
