The Facts
Baby formula production restarted Saturday at the Abbott plant in Sturgis, MI.
The shutting down of the plants was due to contamination problems and has been a factor in a countrywide formula shortage.
Abbott stated, “Abbott is starting production of EleCare and other specialty and metabolic formulas, with initial EleCare product release to consumers beginning on or about June 20.”
The production was restarted after meeting initial requirements agreed to by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Abbott is working to start the production of Similac and other formulas.
