US & Canada investigate multi-state Hepatitis A outbreak. Outbreak potentially linked to organic strawberries.
Where: United States and Canada
The Facts
US and Canadian food safety regulators are currently investigating a Hepatitis A outbreak with potential links to FreshKampo and HEB brand fresh organic strawberries purchased between March 5th and April 25th.
The investigation follows a multi-state outbreak of Hepatitis A in both the US and Canada.
The US authorities have recorded 15 related illnesses that have cropped up in CA, along with one each in MN and ND. According to the FDA, 12 of those affected had to be hospitalized.
Meanwhile, Canada has reported 10 cases of Hepatitis A, again with potential links to the aforementioned tainted strawberries.
The FDA issued a warning notice, stating, “If you are unsure of what brand you purchased, when you purchased your strawberries or where you purchased them from prior to freezing them, the strawberries should be thrown away.”
