Trial of Michael Sussmann begins

Jury selected in Durham-Sussmann trial. Sussmann is charged with making false statement to the FBI.

Where: District of Columbia

The Facts

On Monday, a jury was seated in the trial of former Clinton attorney Michael Sussmann — the first trial stemming from Special Counsel John Durham’s years-long investigation into the origins of the Trump-Russia probe.
US District Judge Christopher Cooper presided over the first day of the Sussmann trial, which consisted of nearly eight hours of jury selection.
The probe by Durham has gone on longer than Robert Mueller’s probe, which Durham is investigating.
Durham was appointed by then-Attorney General William Barr to lead the investigation but has only secured one conviction for Kevin Clinesmith.
Federal prosecutors Andrew DeFilippis, Michael Keilty, Deborah Brittain Shaw, and Jonathan Edgar Algor IV are representing the government. Sussmann is represented by defense attorneys Sean Berkowitz, Michael Bosworth, Catherine Yao, and Natalie Hardwick Rao.
