The Facts
On May 18th, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken confirmed that the US had officially resumed Embassy operations in Kyiv.
The US had suspended Embassy operations in Ukraine’s capital three months ago, a few days before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Blinken stated, “The Ukrainian people, with our security assistance, have defended their homeland in the face of Russia’s unconscionable invasion, and, as a result, the Stars and Stripes are flying over the Embassy once again.”
Department of State Spokesperson Ned Price said the US reaffirmed its commitment to Ukraine as the American flag was raised again over the Embassy in Kyiv on Wednesday.
Blinken noted that they had introduced additional security measures and protocols to “increase the safety” of US personnel returning to Kyiv.
