The Facts
North Korea has admitted that it is fighting an explosive Covid-19 outbreak as new deaths were reported.
Concerns have been raised as the country has a weak health system, limited testing facilities, and no vaccine program.
State news agency KCNA stated, “According to the information of the state emergency epidemic prevention headquarters, over 296 180 more persons had fever, more than 252 400 were recovered and 15 died from the evening of May 13 to 18:00 of May 14 in the country.”
According to UN News, the WHO “is committed to helping the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), respond to COVID-19, after its first declared infection was reported in the media there.”
Swift emergency measures have been taken by the state including the imposition of a lockdown.
