The Facts
Russia has imposed sanctions on the owner of the Polish section of the Yamal-Europe pipeline, Gazprom Germania, and its subsidiaries in several countries, including the US, Switzerland, and Singapore.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov noted that there could be no relations with the sanctioned companies moving forward, nor would the affected companies be permitted to partake in supplying Russian gas.
Gazprom Germania is an energy trading, storage, and transmission business. Germany appointed the Federal Network Agency as Gazprom Germania’s trustee last month after Gazprom relinquished ownership of the firm.
The German government’s spokesperson announced that the authorities were taking all necessary precautions and preparing their responses to the various scenarios brought about by the sanctions.
The Yamal-Europe pipeline carried Russian gas to Europe and is jointly owned by EuRoPol GAZ (on the Polish side) and Gazprom (on the Russian side).
Gazprom stated, “A ban on transactions and payments to entities under sanctions has been implemented. For Gazprom, this means a ban on the use of a gas pipeline owned by EuRoPol GAZ to transport Russian gas through Poland.”
