Dave Chappelle’s attacker will not face felony charges

A man rushed onstage and attacked comedian Dave Chappelle. Attacker will not be facing felony charges.

Where: Los Angeles, CA

The Facts

During his performance earlier this week, the man who allegedly rushed onstage and attacked comedian Dave Chappelle won’t face felony charges.
On Thursday, Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón’s office declined to file felony charges against the 23-year-old Isaiah Lee, who was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after he appeared to tackle Chappelle during Tuesday’s comedy show.
The district attorney’s office chose not to pursue felony charges despite Lee carrying a replica pistol with a folding knife attached to it.
The LA County District Attorney’s Office spokesperson, Greg Risling, stated, “After reviewing the evidence, prosecutors determined that while criminal conduct occurred, the evidence as presented did not constitute felony conduct.”
Chappelle’s attorney, Gabriel Colwell, stated, “It’s a travesty of justice that DA Gascòn is refusing to prosecute this case as a felony.”
