The Facts
On Tuesday, Ford Motor Co (F.N) began manufacturing its F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck.
Ford marked the “Job One” ceremony for the Lightning truck with a webcast on Tuesday at 1:30 EDT (17:30 GMT).
The event marked an acceleration of the Lightning’s assembly system at Ford’s Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Dearborn, Michigan.
Ford aims to build 150,000 Lightning trucks a year at the Rouge manufacturing complex while additionally building a much larger electric vehicle production complex in Tennessee.
Ford had planned to build just 40,000 units annually; however, a surge in demand for electric vehicles prompted them to increase the planned production of the Lightning twice since last August.
