FL Judge blocks nationwide mask mandate for travelers

Mask mandate for travelers quashed. CDC continues to recommend masking while traveling.

Where: United States

The Facts

On Monday, US District Judge Kathryn Kimball Mizelle moved to void the nationwide mask mandate for passengers traveling on airplanes and other public transportation systems.
The federal mask mandate, a CDC regulation, was due to expire this month. Last week, the CDC extended the mask mandate for 15 days through May 3rd, 2022.
Judge Mizelle stated that the CDC had exceeded its statutory authority by issuing the masking mandate and failed to justify the order or follow the appropriate rulemaking procedures.
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced that they would no longer be enforcing the mask requirement.
White House Press Secretary, Jen Psaki, noted that officials would now be reviewing the court’s decision. Psaki added that the CDC continues to recommend that people wear a mask while using public transportation services.
