Extradited Honduran ex-president to face charges in the US

The Facts

Former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez made his first appearance in a US court after being extradited to face drug trafficking charges.
Hernandez was extradited on Thursday from Tegucigalpa, Honduras on a US Drug Enforcement Administration plane.
A Department of Justice news release states, “The indictment charges that from at least in or about 2004, up to and including in or about 2022, Hernández, the former two-term President of Honduras, participated in a corrupt and violent drug-trafficking conspiracy to facilitate the importation of hundreds of thousands of kilograms of cocaine into the United States.”
An arraignment hearing for Hernandez was set for May 10.
A Honduran Supreme Court ruling facilitated the extradition of Hernandez to face charges in a US court.
