The Facts
On Tuesday, according to the Department of Justice, Enrique Tarrio (38) was arrested in Miami and is to make his initial appearance in the Southern District of Florida.
Tarrio was arrested on a conspiracy charge for his suspected role in the attack on the US Capitol on January 6th, 2021. He was not present when the riot broke out.
Tarrio was indicted on one count each of conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding and obstruction of an official proceeding, as well as two counts each of assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers and destruction of government property.
The Justice Department stated, “Although Tarrio is not accused of physically taking part in the breach of the Capitol, the indictment alleges that he led the advance planning and remained in contact with other members of the Proud Boys during their breach of the Capitol.”
Over three dozen of the 750+ people charged in the Capitol riots have been identified by federal authorities as Proud Boys leaders, members, or associates.
