Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has ordered his country’s nuclear deterrent forces to be on high alert, citing “aggressive statements” by NATO allies and sanctions from several Western nations as the cause.
On Sunday, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke to Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and agreed to hold talks with Russia “without preconditions” at the Ukraine-Belarus border.
Ukraine’s and Russia’s delegations will meet near the Pripyat River. Ukrainian Deputy Interior Minister Evgeny Yenin said the meeting would take place on Monday morning.
President of the EU Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said, “We are stepping up our support for Ukraine. For the first time, the EU will finance the purchase and delivery of weapons and equipment to a country under attack.”
An emergency special session of the UN General Assembly to discuss Russia’s military actions in Ukraine will be held on Monday.
