NY lifts mask-or-vaccine mandate. MA ends school masking mandate.

The Facts
NY Governor Kathy Hochul has announced that the statewide mask-or-vaccine requirement for indoor businesses is to be lifted, effective from February 10th. School mask mandates will stand and are due to be reevaluated in March.
IL Governor J.B. Pritzker announced the lifting of the statewide indoor masking mandate for most public spaces beginning February 28th. Mask requirements for schools, health care settings and public transport will continue.
MA Governor Charlie Baker remarked that the state’s school masking mandate would end on February 28th. Several other States have also revised their masking requirements, including RI, CA, OR, NJ, CT, and DE.
CDC Director, Dr. Rochelle Walensky, noted that the agency continues to recommend wearing masks in indoor areas with high and substantial transmission risk, alongside universal masking in schools.
Dr. Walensky stated, “Our hospitalizations are still high, our death rates are still high… We are encouraged by the current (case) trends, (but) we’re not there yet.”
