Where: Hong Kong

The Facts

Hong Kong is currently grappling with a surge in the number of COVID-19 infections, with the city reporting 8,674 new cases on Wednesday.

In response to the increasing number of positive cases, Hong Kong has ordered mandatory COVID-19 testing for all its residents throughout March.

Hong Kong’s Chief Executive, Carrie Lam, noted that authorities would be testing the entire population three times next month.

Lam stated, “Since we have a population of some 7 million people, testing will take about seven days.”

Lam added that the testing samples will be sent to the mainland (China) if local testing capacity doesn’t meet requirements.
