As Hong Kong continues to battle a surging number of COVID-19 infections, 6,067 new cases were reported on Sunday.
Hong Kong’s Health Secretary, Sophia Chan, state that the administration might tighten anti-COVID-19 restrictions to curb the rising number of positive cases.
Chan did not elaborate on the possible new restrictions; however, she urged that citizens remain at home.
At a press conference last week, Hong Kong’s Chief Executive Carrie Lam noted that the administration was planning on introducing mandatory mass COVID-19 testing linked to residents’ government identity cards.
Lam stated, “Mandatory testing and a complete city lockdown may not need to go hand in hand; it depends on the actual situation… In our case, having examined the unique situation in Hong Kong, we probably will just go for universal testing of everyone.”
