Protests in Ottawa and at two border crossings between Canada and the US have been ongoing for two weeks – the protests are against Covid restrictions.
The closure of the Ambassador Bridge is of particular importance because of the significant amount of annual trade between the US and Canada that comes through it.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has stood firm on federal Covid measures.
Trudeau tweeted, “There is no place in Canada for this behaviour. So, to those responsible: It needs to stop.”
The Ottawa Police warned, “We are providing you notice that anyone blocking streets or assisting others in the blocking of streets may be committing a criminal offence.”
