The UK government has announced that all 11 countries on their travel red list will be removed even as the Omicron variant spreads in countries throughout the world.
Passengers returning from Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe will no longer be required to stay in designated quarantine hotels.
Health and Social Care Secretary Sajid Javid stated, “Now there is community transmission of Omicron in the UK and Omicron has spread so widely across the world the travel Red List is now less effective in slowing the incursion of Omicron from abroad.”
Travel restrictions will be reimposed if found necessary.
Arrivals from red-listed countries previously had to pay exorbitant sums of money to quarantine in approved hotels.
