The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is actively investigating or observing approximately 86 cruise ships after outbreaks of Covid on board.
The Omicron variant has spiked the number of infections across the US, disrupting travel and vacation plans.
Among the affected cruise lines are Disney, Carnival, Royal Caribbean, and Norwegian.
The Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) tweeted, “Many of our members have announced additional measures in response to the Omicron variant, including strengthening testing, masking, and other requirements, as well as encouraging booster vaccine doses for those eligible.”
The USS Milwaukee has also halted its deployment due to a Covid outbreak among the crew – the ship is currently in port at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
