Study results say Pfizer pill is effective

Pfizer study reports high efficacy in Covid pill. Risk of hospitalization or death reduced by 89%.

Where: United States

The Facts

Clinical trials results indicate that a pill to treat Covid-19, developed by Pfizer, reduces the risk of hospitalization or death by 89% in vulnerable adults.

Due to the overwhelming efficacy visible in the results, Pfizer will stop further enrolment into the study.

Pfizer states, “If approved or authorized, PAXLOVID™, which originated in Pfizer’s laboratories, would be the first oral antiviral of its kind, a specifically designed SARS-CoV-2-3CL protease inhibitor.”

Pfizer intends to submit the data as part of its ongoing rolling submission to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) as soon as possible.

U.K. Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) recently approved a similar treatment by a product developed by Merck Sharp and Dohme.
