Thousands of migrants gathered near the Belarus-Poland border on Monday.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen called on Member states to approve the extended sanctions regime on the Belarusian authorities.
von der Leyen stated, “I have spoken to Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė and Latvian Prime Minister Arturs Krišjānis Kariņš to express the EU’s solidarity and discuss with them the measures the EU can take to support them in their efforts to deal with this crisis.”
Polish government spokesperson Piotr Muller tweeted, “The situation on the Polish-Belarusian border – We are dealing with the organized destruction of border fortifications. There are also direct attacks on Polish officers of the Border Guard, Police, and soldiers.” (translated)
Traffic was suspended in both directions at the border crossing in Kuznica.
