Russian analyst Igor Danchenko was arrested Thursday on charges of lying to the FBI about his sources of information.
Danchenko had worked on a dossier of Democratic-funded research into ties between Russia and Donald Trump.
The Russian analyst is part of John Durham’s (Special Counsel for the United States Department of Justice) ongoing investigation to find whether Trump and Russia had conspired in Trump’s 2016 campaign to tip the outcome of that year’s presidential election.
Danchenko has been accused of making false statements to the FBI in 2017 about helping British spy Christopher Steele while being financed by Democrats to investigate ties between Trump’s campaign and Russia.
The FBI used 43-year-old Danchenko’s claims leading to the Steele Dossier to obtain warrants to surveil Trump’s top aide.
