Where: Washington, DC

The Facts

New Jersey gym owner and former MMA fighter who punched a police officer during the Jan 6 insurrection on the Capitol was sentenced Wednesday.

The first person to be sentenced for assaulting an officer during the riot, Scott Fairlamb, received three years in prison.

Fairlamb, 44, received the longest prison term among 32 related sentences delivered so far.

Capitol US District Judge Royce Lamberth said Fairlamb’s actions had struck “at the heart of our democracy.”

A remorseful Fairlamb, who pled guilty, avoiding a trial, said, “I take full responsibility for what I did that day. That’s not who I am. That’s not who I was raised to be.”
