The Dixie Fire showed no signs of slowing down as it burned nearly 552,589 acres and was 31% contained.

The fire prompted evacuation orders for Genesee Valley as thunderstorms caused winds that increased fire activity.

Firefighters saw activity on Highway 36, between Westwood and Chester towns – Westwood was placed under evacuation orders.

As wildfires have burned large areas of the West, health officials are confronting an increasing number of patients with ailments due to inhaling heavy smoke.

The CDC stated, “Wildfire smoke can irritate your lungs, cause inflammation, affect your immune system, and make you more prone to lung infections, including SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.”
