Two more Washington, DC police officers have died by suicide since the Jan 6th capitol riots. A total of four police officers who responded to the riots have committed suicide.
Officer Kyle DeFretag, who had been on the force since 2016, assigned to the Fifth District, was found dead on Saturday, July 10th.
A veteran of the force since 2003, Officer Gunther Hashida, assigned to the Police Emergency Response Team, was found dead at his home on Thursday.
The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) confirmed the latest deaths on Monday.
A 17-year veteran of the US Capitol Police, Officer Howie Liebengood, and a 12-year veteran of the MPD, Officer Jeffrey Smith, had died by suicide in the days following their response to the Capitol riots.
